Hello In this update, we're looking at private client - specifically issues with drafting and execution of wills,David Porter's retirement and profile of Private Client Solicitor, Lucy Dunning You'll also find out what we've been doing lately to support charities in our 150th year.
2021 marks a significant milestone in the growth of
Fieldings Porter as one of the top legal firms in the UK. This year we celebrate 150 years of providing solid legal support to communities in the North West and nationwide.
WHAT MATTHEW HAS BEEN UP TO! • Fieldings Porter's Marie Gorton bounced 150 times with Matthew, to raise funds for Sands, the stillbirth & neonatal death charity, ‘Love you to the moon and back Space Jump’. Our partners donated £25!
• We had a great family fun day and we even got to sponge our partners all in the spirit of fundraising for Kidscan Children's Cancer Research. Thank you to Dunscar Golf Club for being brilliant hosts and to SMVE Hire Ltd for the inflatables/party supplies. Matthew and Liz also got to make a guest appearance too!
• Well done to Fieldings Porter team for taking part in the Bolton Lads and Girls Club Official Football Tournament, sponsored by AO and helping to raise funds! Matthew especially had a fantastic day
• Matthew attended F1 at Silverstone with Fieldings Porter's David Darlington. Shame he didn't get a photo with Lewis Hamilton maybe next year?
• Matthew is fully aware of the risks of staying in the sun too long unprotected, that’s why he
went to Bolton Community Kitchen with donations of sun cream, whilst Fieldings Porter's Laura Leech volunteered!
• As well as donating a coffee machine in our 150th year of charities celebrations, our team also took part in the NHS Charities Together#NHSBigtea Day and raised a cuppa in support of the brilliant NHS staff at Bolton NHS FoundationTrust.

David Porter Retires After 55 Years
CONSULTANT DAVID PORTER RETIRES This month David Porter moved into full time retirement after 55 years service in the practice that bears his name.
David started practising here in 1966. His father before him founded the Porter part of this firm in 1932. A pillar of the community, his involvement in local charities and his long service to them and the wider community mark him out. More than that he has been a source of wisdom for thousands of clients and hundreds of colleagues over that time.
He has served (among other things) as Partner, Senior Partner, Clerk to the Commissioner of Taxes, Bolton Law Society President, President of the Association of North West Law Societies & Chairman of the Bolton Chamber of Commerce. Moreover for this firm and the people in it he has been a source of friendship, positivity and of fun. David has been gracious enough to allow us to continue to list him as a non-practising consultant on our letterhead and we have and will continue to retain “Porter” in this firm’s name. We wish David a long, happy and healthy retirement..
I enjoy helping people to navigate through the often daunting task of dealing with a deceased relative’s estate. It’s nice to know that I can take some of the stress away, during what is a very difficult and emotional time.
What’s the highlight of your career to date? I became a full member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) in 2017, after studying for two years while working as a solicitor. Full STEP members, known as TEPs, are internationally recognised as experts in private client law.
If you weren’t a solicitor what would you be doing
I always had aspirations to become a vet, until I developed a phobia of needles! My mum’s family are florists by trade and I enjoy being creative, so I think I would be a wedding florist.
When you’re not working, we’d be most likely to find
you?
With my family, either at home or walking our cocker spaniel, Watson, through the fields. We also love spending time in
Cornwall, so you’d probably find me there, eating a Cornish pasty and a cream tea.
What is your favourite book?
I love reading old classics. I’m currently working my way through all twelve Poldark novels.
Recommend a place to visit in Manchester/Bolton
If you like the outdoors then I would highly recommend an early morning walk around Rivington, followed by a late breakfast at Curley’s Dining Rooms.
